Who are you destined to be?

The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Who you are today is who you have decided to be today…? Uhhmm, really? Yes, really!

It’s a powerful thought.

It’s an immense responsibility.

It’s a beautiful gift.

It’s empowering.

It’s inspiring.

It means you are in control of who you become.

There is no running away from who you are and who you become. There is, however, changing what you do, how you do it, why you do it and ultimately who you are.

You heard this before, but let me say this to you again:

You are not your thoughts!

You are not your mistakes!

You are not your beliefs!

You are not your feelings!

You are not your weaknesses!

You are not the demons you are fighting!

Today I would like to ask you: Who do you want to be?”

And once you know the answer, ask yourself:

· How much time do you spend thinking about this?

· How much time and effort do you spend on developing and growing into this person.

· What are you doing to focus your thoughts, beliefs, and efforts in becoming this person?

· Who is helping you to become this person?

· What do you need to become this person?

· Have you identified what is standing in your way of becoming this person?

· Have you made the decision to become this person…?

Henry David Thoreau: “You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself one”.

Personal Growth is work! It takes time, focus, effort and commitment. Why then do we neglect ourselves to the point that we lose ourselves, we forget who we are, who we want to become and our purpose in life, in every moment.

Looking back at 2020, my word, what a year! We collectively experienced and pandemic and individually experienced life in our own unique way.

If ever there was a time to jump at the opportunity to grow, this was the year!

I missed some opportunities this year when I felt sorry for myself, when I felt isolated and my energy levels were low, when I focused on thoughts and feelings and beliefs and told myself that’s who I am. All of these things I could choose to change in a flash… but I basked in moments of feeling miserable. When I critically looked at my life in these moments, I know irrefutably that I was still in control and could and had to change my course, SO I DID!

There isn’t a day that goes by that life does not knock on my door, wake my consciousness and show me just how fleeting it is. Miss today, and it’s gone! Miss an opportunity and you will regret it! Miss the overwhelming need in you to grow and become who you want to be, and another moment for growth was sacrificed.

Tell yourself today that no matter what, you have to choose to “hammer and forge” your character, yourself, every moment of every day.

As a good friend and amazing soul once said to me “be kind to yourself”.

Be kind to yourself and take no prisoners when it comes to your goals.

Be kind to yourself and be deliberate about who you want to become.

Be kind to yourself and be serious about yourself and your life.

Be kind to yourself and hammer and forge the YOU you can and want to be!
